I was recently invited to give a keynote talk on digital sport and fan engagement at Coppead Graduate School of Business in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Like my own University at Salford, the staff and students and the local sports clubs in Brazil are all very interested in using technologies to engage a wide range of fans. The hot topic at the moment in Brazil, the UK and around the world is eSports. We were fascinated to find out more about how eSports was being used by sports clubs in Brazil and the UK to engage fans including a younger generation of new fans.
By using our field research, interviews with sports clubs and case studies, I had the great pleasure of working with a group of talented researchers and practitioners from Brazil to produce this new white paper called “ESports and Fan Engagement: Brazil vs England”. The paper explores the scale and growth of eSports looking at case studies and examples and asks the question of how sports clubs are using eSports for fan engagement.
You can download the white paper ESports and Fan Engagement: Brazil vs England here for a printable version. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on the paper and please feel free to share it with whoever you like. Our intention is to further explore this interesting topic with more practical research – watch this space.
